This portfolio is part of a long term project begun in 2013 documenting the performing artists and contributors that make up the monthly experimental performance based LGBTQ+ community event by the name of Planet Queer.

First experiencing Planet Queer in 2012, I was struck by the performers works helping to disarm and build a sense of multi generational community within the room. The dance floor of Akbar, a bar in Los Angeles’s Silverlake neighborhood, was transformed with a portable stage, folding chairs, twinkle lights and hand made outer space themed cardboard decorations hanging from the disco lights in the bar. Reflecting the DIY ascetic of the performance evening, the unifying mylar backdrop in these portfolio images reflect the outer space theme and become a constant element for more than a decade of portraits.
